OUR IMPACT

Lighthouse Works provides real career opportunities for a talent-rich and reliable segment of our community who face an unacceptable rate of unemployment.

Lighthouse Works is a social enterprise, nonprofit company, which means its businesses exist to meet real needs in the marketplace, while at the same time addressing important social and economic challenges in Central Florida – providing real career opportunities for a talent-rich and reliable segment of our community who face an unacceptable rate of unemployment, while also generating revenue to ensure every infant, child, teen, adult, and senior in Central Florida has access to comprehensive, life-changing vision rehabilitation services at Lighthouse Central Florida.

According to Prevent Blindness, the number of Florida residents with impaired vision, including blindness, could more than double between today and the year 2050. This projection, they assert, could represent a cost of $717 Billion over that same time period. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that in November 2015, 70 percent of the 2.2 million working-age adults in the U.S. who are completely blind or partially sighted were unemployed or not in the labor force.

While Lighthouse Central Florida will always need community support, Lighthouse Works’ mission of Empowerment through Employment is as critical today as ever before. At the end of its fifth full year of business, the Lighthouse Works’ Board of Directors pledged its first $200,000 contribution to Lighthouse Central Florida and the company achieved an increase in direct labor performed by team members who are blind or visually impaired by over 50 percent! And this is just the beginning.
